The longest drop is 585 meters. To the right of the waterfall you can see the huge scar in the mountainside made by two massive landslides in 1905 and 1936. The landslides caused flood waves in the lake below, wiping out the settlements Nesdal and Bødal. 61 people were killed in the 1905 incident, while 74 people were killed in 1936.
